About the Fila Brasileiro
The Fila Brasileiro is a large Molossian-type guardian from Brazil, developed for guarding farms and tracking. It is a powerful dog with loose skin, a short coat in fawn, brindle or black, and a wary, watchful manner. It is famously suspicious of strangers, so it is best suited to experienced owners who can handle a dominant guard.
Temperament
Loyal and devoted to its family, but naturally wary of strangers. It is a strong dog that requires thorough socialisation, firm and consistent training and secure fencing. Not suited to inexperienced owners.
Exercise
Moderate to high exercise, with daily walks and space to move. Avoid heat exertion and hard exercise for growing dogs.
Grooming
The short, close coat needs a brush about once a week. Wipe the loose skin folds on the neck and face when they get dirty.
Care & wellbeing
Giant, powerful dogs need joint care and a lean weight.
