About the Catalan Sheepdog

The Catalan Sheepdog, or Gos d'Atura Catala, is a herding dog from the Pyrenean region of Catalonia in Spain. It was developed to work with flocks in mountain country. It is a medium-sized dog with a long, slightly wavy, dense coat that forms a beard and eyebrows, often in fawn, sable or grey shades.

Temperament

Usually intelligent, hard-working and loyal, with a lively, alert nature. It tends to be reserved with strangers and may bark to alert, and it responds well to consistent, positive training.

Exercise

Needs daily vigorous exercise and mental work, such as long walks, training and dog sports.

Grooming

The long, dense coat needs brushing a few times a week to prevent mats.

Care & wellbeing

Provide plenty of mental stimulation and early socialisation.
