About the Miniature American Shepherd
The Miniature American Shepherd is a small herding dog developed in the United States from small Australian Shepherd-type dogs. It has a medium-length weather-resistant coat in several colours, an agile, well-balanced body and an alert expression. It was developed as a companion and working dog, and is recognised provisionally by the FCI.
Temperament
Intelligent, energetic and attentive, it usually bonds strongly with family and may be reserved with strangers. It needs mental work and can be inclined to herd children or pets. Responds well to positive training.
Exercise
Needs at least an hour of active exercise daily plus mental tasks such as training games, agility or scent work. Bored dogs may become noisy or destructive.
Grooming
A double coat that sheds, heavier in seasonal moults. Brush a few times a week and more often when shedding.
Care & wellbeing
Keep it fit and lean, and provide enough mental stimulation. Check ears regularly.
