About the Yakutian Laika

The Yakutian Laika is a spitz-type working dog from the Sakha (Yakutia) region of Russia, used for hunting and for pulling sledges in extreme cold. It has a thick double coat, pricked ears and a curled tail. The breed has only provisional recognition and reliable information on it is limited.

Temperament

Probably energetic, friendly and hardy, like other northern working dogs. Likely sociable with people and willing to work in a team.

Exercise

Needs lots of daily exercise and work, such as long walks, running or pulling activities.

Grooming

Thick double coat that sheds heavily; brush a couple of times a week.

Care & wellbeing

Heat can be hard on a thick coat, so provide shade and water. Use a secure fence, as northern breeds can escape.
